Local teachers lined up for classroom supplies at the Downtown Supplies Teachers event Thursday afternoon during the Farmers Market at Bradwell Park.

VIP Office Furniture and Supply provided the supplies and local businesses purchased “teacher packs” for distribution. Businesses, such as, Southern Sweets Café and Bakery and Island Café also had a donation box where people could drop off items for the teachers.

Michelle Ricketson, executive director of the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority, said 150 bags were put together with approximately $3,000 worth of supplies.

It all came together by capitalizing on resources, sponsorships and partnerships within the community, she said.

The packs included hand sanitizer, pens, pre-sharpened pencils, permanent markers, binder clips and a McDonald’s gift card. Representatives from CenturyLink also gave away bags with supplies from the company.

Teachers entered a raffle to win a gift basket worth over $300 and were greeted by Ronald McDonald and the Chick-fil-A cow.
