Parents of preschoolers who live off-post in Liberty County have two opportunities this spring to enroll their children in the Liberty County Pre-K Center for the 2010-11 school year. Liberty Pre-K Center will have registration from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 17, and again from 8 a.m.- noon Saturday, May 1.
Pre-K center resource coordinator Melissa McCallar said the change should help many parents more easily obtain documents that in the past have been difficult to get before the traditional March registration period.
Children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 1 and who live in Liberty County but do not reside on Fort Stewart are eligible to enroll. Parents do not need to bring their children, but they must have the following documents to register:
• original birth certificate
• Social Security card
• immunization record (form 3231)
• eye, ear, dental screening (form 3300)
• photo identification of parent or legal guardian
• proof of address (a current utility bill and a valid lease agreement/proof of home ownership)
McCallar added that parents do not need to line up hours before registration opens to ensure they get a slot; 400 slots are available and the coordinator said they do not expect to run out on either day.
McCallar said parents who are interested in enrolling their children in the state lottery-funded pre-K program have several options in Liberty County. Several early learning, or daycare, centers offer the program as part of their services.
Each provider will likely have its own date for registration and should be able to provide an approximate number of available slots. The following sites are listed as receiving funding for the 2010 school year:
