Scholarship offered to military spouse

Applications are being taken for the Rita Ackerman Scholarship. The scholarship was created specifically to be awarded to the spouse of any enlisted service member, either active duty or retired.
The scholarship is in memory of the late Rita Ackerman, a military spouse who was active in the Fort Stewart community. Ackerman was a driving force in the Spouse's Club as well as a dedicated volunteer for the post thrift shop, Army Community Services and the American Red Cross.
"It was Rita's dream that everyone be able to attain the education they needed to be able to take care of themselves and their families," said Maggie Roberts, scholarship chairwoman.
Applications are available at the Fort Stewart Library, the Sgt. First Class Paul R. Smith Army Education Center off Gen. Stewart Way and at Savannah Technical College. Applications must be postmarked by April 1.
