Each year, the top four regional Reading Bowl teams travel to Athens to take part in the Helen Ruffin Georgia Reading Bowl. The state bowl is part of the Children's Literature Conference.  This year's bowl was held March 1.
Two teams from Liberty County schools represented the Southern Region.
Joseph Martin Elementary competed in the elementary division of the bowl and placed third in the state. A combined Bradwell Institute-Liberty County High School team competed in the high school division, and earned recognition for participation.
This is the first year that a team from Liberty County qualified to compete at the state bowl.
Team sponsors expressed thanks to James Floyd and his Heritage Bank for donating funds to pay for their lodging while in Athens.
