Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority, Inc. (CGACAA) is inviting current Head Start and Early Head Start families, as well as families interested in enrolling their children in the program, to participate in its free Summer Child Development Screenings designed to help children prepare for a healthy and successful start to the upcoming school year.

The screenings provide parents and caregivers with valuable information about their child's development, learning readiness, and overall well-being. Conducted by trained staff, the screenings assess developmental milestones, school readiness skills, vision, hearing, communication, and early learning development.

Screenings are scheduled for the following:

June 17
Liberty & McIntosh counties
5627 South Coastal Highway, Riceboro
10 a.m.-3 p.m.

July 18
Wayne & Long counties
724 North Fourth Street, Jesup
10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The screening process takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes and includes multiple stations focused on key areas of child development. Families will also receive information about available resources and referrals should additional support be recommended.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to enter the classroom confident, prepared, and ready to learn," said Tres Hamilton, chief executive officer of CGACAA. "These screenings are an important part of supporting our Head Start and Early Head Start families while also helping us connect with new families who may benefit from the program. We want every child to have access to the tools and resources they need for a strong start."

During the event, families will participate in:

  • Registration
  • Developmental Screening (Ages & Stages Questionnaire)
  • School Readiness Screening (Brigance)
  • Vision Screening
  • Hearing Screening
  • Parent Resource Station

In addition to the developmental screenings, CGACAA staff will be available to assist families interested in enrolling their children in Head Start or Early Head Start. Families who have not yet completed an application for the upcoming school year are encouraged to attend and learn more about eligibility requirements, available services, and the enrollment process.

Current Head Start and Early Head Start families, along with families seeking high-quality early childhood education opportunities for their children, are encouraged to attend one of the free screening events scheduled throughout Coastal Georgia.
