An abandoned rental car was damaged by an apparent spray of bullets after Hinesville Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired Wednesday at the Harbor Rain Apartments, on Saunders Avenue.
According to HPD Officer Donnie Nunnally, the department received the call just after 11 p.m. at the sprawling apartment complex located just outside Fort Stewart’s main gate.
Nunnally said officers found a parked car with its horn blaring and the windshield wipers in motion. The car was damaged but unoccupied when police arrived.
Dozens of officers searched the area to locate a victim but were unable to locate anyone. The vehicle was rented from a car rental company in Charleston, S.C. No injuries were reported in the shooting.
Officers searching the area discovered shell casings from more than one firearm. The vehicle was later towed to the Hinesville Police Department for further analysis.
