A Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputy serving a search warrant shot a person Thursday night at a home on Ed Powers Boulevard in Gum Branch, authorities said.

LCSO Chief Deputy Jon Long said the sheriff’s office has called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate.

Long did not say whether the person shot was a man or woman, nor what led to the shooting shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday.

The person was reportedly taken to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah with unreported injuries.

The deputy was not hurt.

The identities of the deputy and the person shot were not released Thursday night.

The Courier will update once more information is known.
