Twenty-four graduates from the Liberty County School System students were awarded college scholarships from the Margret L. Martin Charitable Foundation according to a press release issued by the Foundation’s Trustee Bank of America.
The release stated the Martins, Magaret L. and Donald, were active members of the local community with a passion for giving back. Mr. Martin served as the President of the Hinesville Bank, now known as the Heritage Bank. Mrs. Martin was the Civilian Personnel Director on Fort Stewart and later owned Martin Insurance Company. The couple established the Magaret L. Martin Charitable Foundation to give back to the place they called home.

Since 1995 the Martins’ scholarship has awarded more than $6,145,000 in scholarship funds to graduates of the LCSS. To qualify, students must meet rigorous academic standards, excel in an interview with members of the foundation’s scholarship committee and meet residency requirements. The initial award is in the amount of $5,000. It is renewable for three successive years as long as the recipient maintains a “B” average in a four-year college or nursing school. Twenty-four graduates were chosen of the 32 that applied.
