Dr. Franklin Perry finally had the word “interim” removed from his title as the Liberty County Board of Education agreed to the terms of his contract Tuesday morning during a work session at the Board of Education Building in Hinesville.
Perry will be paid $192,000 annually, according to a copy of his contract sent to the Courier late Tuesday.
The contract is for three years.
Perry has been with the LCSS as interim superintendent since June when he was appointed as a temporary replacement for Dr. Valya Lee, who parted ways with the school board in March after months of dissension.
Lee was paid $190,000 annually, and got one year’s salary as severance after she and the BOE agreed to end her time with Liberty County’s school system.
Perry was paid $800 per day during the search for a permanent replacement. He was named the only finalist for the job in November.
During negotiations on Perry’s contract, Jones, Osteen and Jones announced Dec. 7 they would no longer be legal counsel for the district, putting those talks on hold.
Tuesday, the board went into executive session to discuss personnel matters. Upon reconvening they approved personnel matters and Perry’s contract.
It calls for Perry to receive a car, insurance, vacation and sick leave and other benefits normally accorded full time, year-round administrative employees of the district.
