Hinesville Police Department detectives arrested the mother of a 3-year-old who was killed earlier this month.  Jocelyn Carroll, 25, has been charged with one count of cruelty to a child. She was arrested without incident at her job in Richmond Hill shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Detective Doug Snider said.
Carroll is accused of causing excessive physical and mental pain to her son, Samuel Carroll, by leaving him in the care of a person she knew was physically abusing the boy. She made her first court appearance Thursday morning. Bond was set at $8,000. Carroll is being held at the Liberty County jail.
Robert Gonzales has been charged in the death of
the child’s March 3 death.
Gonzales had taken the child to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville on Feb. 27, claiming Samuel has been injured on a playground earlier in the day. The child later was later taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah and placed
on life support. He died after being taken off life
support.
An autopsy revealed the child sustained blunt force trauma to the head. Gonzales has been charged with felony murder and three counts of child cruelty and aggravated battery. He currently is being held in the Liberty County Regional Jail in Hinesville.
