A pedestrian hit by a car while crossing East Oglethorpe Highway on Tuesday night has died, according to Hinesville police.

The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah at 6:47 a.m., according to HPD Traffic Accident Investigator Richard Boucher.

Boucher said it appeared the man was texting while crossing East Oglethrope when he was hit by a Honda CRV. The man rolled onto the hood and hit the windshield, and was carried more than 100 feet by the vehicle before he fell off.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Memorial by a medical air evacuation helicopter Tuesday night.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.
