Soldier recovered from the Atlantic

The body of a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who went missing off St. Simons Island last weekend has been recovered.

Staff Sgt. Calvin Leblanc, 30, was found near the pier by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. He went missing Sunday evening while swimming with his family near East Beach. Glynn County law enforcement assisted with the recovery. The county’s coroner pronounced Leblanc dead at 9:45 p.m.

Leblanc, a Minot, N.D., resident, was reported missing by his wife, who said he was swept out to sea by a rip current. Leblanc was a combat engineer He arrived at Fort Stewart on March 20 and was deployed three times.
