The Long County High School cheerleaders held a summer carnival Saturday to raise money for their upcoming trip to cheerleading camp.
The carnival began at 10 a.m. and included a water slide, face and hair painting, train rides, water balloon tosses, dinosaur digs, a cola-ring toss, cake walks, leap frog games, a jail-n-bail, slam dunk contests, a scavenger hunt, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The carnival, which was held at the high school, also featured grilled hamburgers with chips and sodas.
"What we are doing is raising money for the cheerleaders to go to camp in August," said cheerleading coach Beth Pilkington.
Long County High School has cheerleading squads for both the varsity football team and the varsity basketball team. To remain eligible, students must maintain a certain grade point average and meet various disciplinary standards.
"I just want to thank all the parents and volunteers who came out to support us, and a special thanks goes out to Becky Fowler, Kelly Clary and Kadee Dasher for their help today," Pilkington said.
