Families, friends and fellow soldiers gathered Monday evening to welcome home more than 80 members of the 2-3 Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, during a ceremony on Cottrell Field.

The returning soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Combined Team Uruzgan Security Force. Their mission included the support and security of
provincial reconstruction teams and the support of 2nd ABCT’s security force advice-and-assist teams.

Brig. Gen. John Hort, the deputy commanding general for the 3rd Infantry Division, spoke at the redeployment ceremony.

"We just want to thank you on such a superb job. Be proud of what you have done," Hort said. "Your actions have meaning."

"The mission went very well, and also our soldiers did very well in all aspects and in all areas that they were in," said 1st Sgt. Jason Lovitt, a member of 2-3 BSBT’s SecFor. "I am very proud of them."

"We didn’t know we would be back so quickly, but it’s definitely good to be back," Lovitt added.
