Ortiz earns SSUNAA chapter’s scholarship

The Savannah State University National Alumni Association (SSUNAA) Liberty County Chapter has announced the recipient of their 2026-27 scholarship.

Xaimary Torres Ortiz is the recipient the SSUNAA Liberty County Chapter Scholarship for the upcoming academic year.

Ortiz and her family attended the SSUNAA Liberty County Chapter meeting on May 31, where she was presented her scholarship.

Ortiz will attend Savannah State University in the fall and plans to major in forensic science and minor in biology.

A 2026 honor graduate of Liberty County High School, Ortiz has demonstrated outstanding academic performance, leadership, and a commitment to excellence. While in high school she was in the school JROTC program and the National Honors Society.

Ortiz is the first person of Hispanic descent to be named valedictorian at Liberty County High School.
