One of the first local celebrations to mark the United States’ 250th birthday took place Saturday with a parade through downtown Hinesville.
On July 2, the bells at the First Presbyterian Church will chime 25 times, beginning at 2:50 p.m. Fort Stewart also will host a concert and fireworks July 2 from 5-10 p.m.
Fort Morris State Historic Site will host events from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on July 4, with free admission to the park. There will be cannon and musket firings, along with children’s activities and historical talks.
Guests can experience Fort McAllister, right outside of Richmond Hill, from 3-7 p.m. on July 4 with free admission, giving attendees a chance to see Revolutionary War and Civil War history for free on the same day.
