Armed robbers hold up Walthourville dollar store
FamilyDollarSuspect1

Armed robbers endangered three people and took an undisclosed amount of money from the Family Dollar in Walthourville Friday night.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office lead investigator Det. James Snider, said he and Det. Eric Allen were dispatched to the store in the 5500 block of West Oglethorpe Highway because of the 7:30 p.m. crime.

There were two employees and one customer in the store when two men, one of them brandishing what appeared to be an automatic handgun, came in.

One of the robbers was wearing a gray cap with a bill, a black jacket and dark jeans, and had a neatly trimmed beard and mustache. The other was wearing dark clothing with a black shirt wrapped around his face. The man with the cap also wore gloves and carried the gun.

He ordered the employee at a register to open it while pointing the gun at her. Meanwhile, the other employee realized what was happening, told the customer about the robbery and both ran out a rear entrance.

After getting an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, the men fled through the front entrance. Outside, the men saw the employee and customer, and fired the gun several times. Snider said it was unclear if the shots were fired at the employee and customer or just as a warning.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 912-876-4555 and ask for Snider or Allen.
