Thirty-five firefighters and emergency personnel from 10 regional agencies completed a search and rescue course through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency last month. The 14-hour course was conducted in Riceboro at the Coastal EMC on April 17-18.
According to the GEMA Web site, the course covers unit organization, search and rescue techniques (ground and water), map and compass reading, and basic rope tying and knots. Participants who complete the course are eligible for continuing education credit hours.
“This training enhances our local skills in lifesaving techniques that can be use in natural or man-made disaster and emergency situations,” Liberty County EMA Director Mike Hodges said in a release. “These people are commended for their contribution to providing a safer community within which to live.”
