The Hinesville Fire Department and the Liberty County office of the Georgia Forestry Commission are at the scene of a brush fire behind the Hinesville Cemetery on South Main Street. The incident was reported around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Control lines have been built around the perimeter of the fire and it is 100 percent contained. Area residences will experience smoke in the area.

“We just want people to know we are aware of the fire,” HFD Deputy Chief Kris Johansen said. “There will be smoke in the area and we are working to keep the fire contained.”

Residents area asked to stay away from the fire area to avoid hazards such as falling trees and and equipment at work in the Hinesville Cemetery.
