William Solomon, a former Liberty County deputy who now works security at the Georgia Ports Authority, was injured when he was struck by a tractor trailer there Monday, according to GSP Trooper Jamie Wilson.
The Rincon Post trooper said Solomon was directing traffic at the Garden City facility when he was hit about 3:30 p.m. The driver, whose name has not been released, has been arrested on suspicion of driving DUI, according to WSAV News.
Solomon, who had worked at the port for about eight months, was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. WTOC News reports he is listed in critical condition at the Savannah hospital.
Solomon worked for several years with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office as a patrolman. He lives in Midway.
Sheriff Steve Sikes said officers from his department have been standing vigil at the hospital.
