The Hinesville Police Department issued a “be on the lookout” alert for the man suspected of fatally shooting the spouse of a Fort Stewart soldier early Thursday.

Shaun Williams, 32, was shot several times during an altercation in Harbor Rain Apartments, 601 Saunders Ave., according to Hinesville police Capt. James C. Reid, the commander of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Tyler McGriff, aka “Goon” and “TJ,” in connection with the shooting of Williams. In the BOLO alert, police said McGriff is “armed and dangerous” and urged anyone seeing him not to approach but to call 911, your local police department or the Hinesville police at 912-876-8211. The case agent is Detective Michael Bell, who can be reached at 912-368-8215.

McGriff, 24, is described as black, 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. He has been known to drive a red-and-black moped.

Reid said Williams had been picked up from his Fort Stewart home by a friend who lives in the complex.

Shortly after 2 a.m., an altercation between Williams and McGriff broke out, leading to the shooting outside apartment H, Reid said.

When police arrived, they found Williams lying on the ground. He was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m.
