A thief did the unthinkable, stealing a small safe box from a local church. The theft occurred just before midnight Sept. 19 at the Baconton Baptist Church in Allenhurst, according to law enforcement officials. The safe reportedly contained an undisclosed amount of cash and checks.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft, which, unfortunately for the alleged suspect, was caught on tape.

But, so far, no leads have led to the apprehension of a suspect.

Detective Julie Hibbeler said the sheriff’s office released surveillance video of the suspect, hoping that someone may recognize the man caught on tape. Detectives also captured still shots from the video.

Anyone with information should call Hibbeler at 876-4555. Tips can be posted anonymously at the LCSO website, www.libertyso.com.
