MACE, LCSD seize drugs, pistol, vehicles

The Multi Agency Drug Task Force and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department seized more than 30 pounds of marijuana, 7.6 grams of cocaine, a stolen 9mm handgun and three vehicles this past week in an increasing effort to reduce the amount of drugs and crime in the community, according to authorities.

Traffic stop
On Aug. 21, the sheriff’s department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound on I-95 at about 11 p.m.
The traffic stop was initiated because of lane violations. The incident culminated in MACE agents getting involved when 30.8 pounds of marijuana was discovered in the vehicle.
William Soto Jr., 35, of Dade County, Fla., was arrested. He was later denied bond and is currently behind bars at the Liberty County jail. His 2007 Honda SUV was seized.

Search warrants
Earlier that day, MACE agents, armed with search warrants, went to three addresses where previous undercover sales and purchases of drugs had reportedly been made.

Anthony Cunningham, 25, was arrested with 7.6 grams of powder cocaine, 211.3 grams of marijuana, six crack rocks and a stolen 9mm handgun. MACE was able to determine that some of the items in his residence were tied to a burglary that occurred in Liberty County in January of this year. In addition MACE found evidence possibly connecting him to gang activity. Cunningham will be sent to Savannah to face charges in federal court. His pickup truck was seized in the process.  
* 1134 Kelly Drive No. 73
Shanquette Clemons, 24, an active member of the 632-maintenance unit from Fort Stewart faces one count of sale of marijuana. According to MACE Commander Al Cato this was her first offense. Clemons’ roommate, Vincent Benjamin, 32, was charged with sale of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, and possession of tools of the crime after a search revealed 47.3 grams of marijuana hidden inside his pillowcase. Both have since bonded out of jail.
* 947 Gulfstream Road
Rashee Kirk, 25, faces misdemeanor marijuana charges on two counts of sale of marijuana. His vehicle was also seized. It was unclear whether Kirk made bond.
