LUDOWICI — Red Cross Resource Development Coordinator Denese Register is looking for volunteers to be a part of the Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign in Long, Liberty Bryan, Evans and Tattnall counties.
The campaign is set up for individuals and businesses to help raise money for the American Red Cross so it may respond to emergencies in their counties.
“It’s important for everyone to know that all the money raised in Long County, will only be used in Long County; all the money in Liberty will be used in Liberty — that’s for all the counties,” Register said.
She is looking for individuals, teams and businesses to become “Heroes” by agreeing to raise at least $1,000 for the Long County Red Cross chapter.
“We really are looking for local businesses to maybe challenge one another to raise money, or to set a goal of something which another can match,” Register said.
She noted churches, schools, clubs and other civic groups are urged assist with the campaign.
“Most people only think of the Red Cross helping during major disasters, but the Long County chapter helps people right here in the county through fires and other tragedies, and the funds are limited,” Register said.
Ludowici/Long Fire Department Chief Darrell Ballance said, “The Red Cross has helped us out a lot on our fires and I urge folks to be a part of this program.”
“We need everyone’s help, no matter how big or how small, and the money stays in your area,” Register said.
For more information or to volunteer for the campaign, call Register at (912) 651-5309 or Ballance at (912) 294-6499.
