A middle school student was reportedly arrested after being found in possession of suspected marijuana at school.
A police report filed by officer Rhett Dill of the Hinesville Police Department indicates the officer met with Snelson-Golden Middle School Resource Officer David Guy regarding a male student allegedly found in possession of what the officers believe was marijuana.
"A teacher saw him with it and that's how
the principal obtained the information," Guy said.
According to the report, Principal
Christopher Garretson and another school administrator escorted the student to Guy's office.
"If we have probable cause to search we do," Guy said about the situation. "If not we leave it up to the school's administration."
The student was reportedly questioned if he had anything on his person. The student allegedly pulled a small plastic wrap container from his pants pockets containing the suspected drug.
The Multi Agency Crack Enforcement Drug Task Force was notified and an agent collected the evidence for testing.
According to the report, the Department of Juvenile Justice was called and the young man was released to his father.
Asked if this was a regular occurrence Guy said, "At this school level no. It's more common at the high school level."
