This Saturday is a good time of the year to recycle all those electronics and household items that take up the space you need! Check your closets and storage rooms and your office storage for household items and old electronics that need to be recycled. So, we are here to help on February 20, 2021! The quarterly Recycle It! Fairs are scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2021, from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. We will have our three fair locations in the county to make it easier to recycle various items that can be recycled successfully or disposed of properly. We will have a Shred-It Day only at the Walthourville City Hall location. You must be in line by 12:45pm.
As most of you know, the local recycling dropoff centers throughout the county are available for drop off for regularly used items, including newspapers (even the inserts), paper, magazines, lightboard (like food boxes and product boxes), many types of plastics (bottles and containers), glass bottles, tin cans, aluminum cans, and cardboard. The quarterly Recycle It! Fairs are for other items that are used around the house and around the workplace. Our local partners, 1800GotJunk, Coastal Auto and Recycling, Liberty County Solid Waste, Savannah Shred, and Local Law Enforcement, as well as theCitiesofWalthourville, Hinesville, and Midway, make it possible to offer these special recycling events each quarter for your convenience.
Our fair sites, which are all open between 9:00am and 1:00pm, are: Liberty County Health Department 1113 East Oglethorpe Hwy, Hinesville Liberty County Community Complex 9397 East Oglethorpe Hwy, Midway Walthourville City Hall 22Busbee Drive,Walthourville Here is a reminder of the items we can accept: E-waste- electronics: computers, printers, monitors, and any computer accessories; stereo equipment and televisions; cell phones and accessories. All hard drives will be wiped clean for your security by our local Goodwill Industries.
CFL’s and fluorescent light bulbs (no longer than four inches) Check out the CFL website for Energy Star (www.energystar.gov) for more information on these energy-efficient lights.
Used motor oil and antifreeze as well as car batteries. At the Midway and Walthourville sites, we can accept the car batteries. Still, we can only take the oil and antifreeze in clean, disposable containers. (Remember to always recycle motor oil and antifreeze as soon as possible. Never pour these items down the drain or into a storm drain or just dump them. They cause severe water pollution problems.) Any household batteries Printer ink and toner cartridges Telephone books and large sale catalogs Hardback books, paperbacks, and textbooks Prescription Take Back at all three locations for any old prescription medications
and over-thecounter medications you need to dispose of. Never flush these items down the toilet! These types of things have a detrimental effect on our waterways and, consequently, on aquatic life and humans— like us! Note: we cannot accept hypodermic needles!
Household goods and clothes (in clean, decent condition, please) So, make room for your new Spring stuff! Just think how much more room you will have in your closets, cabinets, and storage areas at home and at work when you collect all of these items for the Recycle It! Fairs! Take this first step now! Then bask in the glow of reducing some of the waste in the world! See you on February 20, 2021! We will be looking for you and your STUFF!
