Shop Small Businesses This Saturday

Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s Small Business Saturday is on November 27. Since 2011, the U.S. Small Business Administration has been a formal cosponsor of Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010. Last year, shoppers came together in full force to support their local shops and restaurants during the middle of a pandemic. This resulted in Small Business Saturday hitting a record high with an estimated $19.8 billion in reported spending nationwide, helping small businesses remain resilient.

The past 18 months have been the greatest challenge in recent times. Even though the pandemic is winding down, and we are adjusting to new realities, it is vital we continue to support small businesses throughout communities. According to American Express’s recent Shop Small Study, Small Business Saturday is the highest-earning day of the year for approximately 30 percent of small businesses nationwide.

While making plans for the holidays – from shopping for gifts to planning festive get togethers – remember to include a visit to local small businesses for your needs. Georgia’s entrepreneurs still need your support as many of them continue to recover from the pandemic or find new ways to pivot their business operations. We also encourage independent businesses to leverage Small Business Saturday to help drive more traffic to their businesses – whether it’s through their doors or to their e-commerce site during the holiday shopping season.
