Campaign spreads respite for families with handicapped children

Easter Seals Southern Georgia is kicking off the third annual Adopt-A-Day Campaign for Megan's House, a children's respite home.
Presently, Megan's House is the only one of its kind in Georgia south of Atlanta, and due to the heavy use of the home in Albany, Megan's House has recently opened a second home in Waycross.
Megan's House provides respite care for the children in South Georgia ages 0-17 who have developmental disabilities, such as autism, mental retardation or those who may be considered medically fragile. Megan's House can accommodate two children at one time for a minimum of 24 hours up to two weeks.
The Adopt-A-Day Campaign is a fundraiser to benefit the families and children who use Megan's House for respite care. Since the cost for one 24-hour stay is $100 per child and the out-of-pocket cost to families for services are determined by a sliding fee scale, the campaign makes it possible for scholarships to be available.
Donations allow for the "adoption" of one of the families for a day, weekend, week or even a month.
For more information on how you can use this service or to make a donation, call the Albany office at (800) 365-4583 or visit the Web site www.southerngeorgiaeasterseals.com.
