Patrick and Wendy Underwood started a Facbook page group called “Parents involved in Liberty Schools System” back in 2013.
“We wanted to bridge the gap between parents and their children and the schools,” Patrick Underwood said. “What we do is put all the information about what is going on in each school in the district on the page.”
He added that they also post information from the Georgia Department of Education and information about local schools, as well as school activities and programs that area children are involved with.
“It’s all about our children,” Underwood said. “We try keep the parents up to speed. We put out local scholarships that juniors and seniors can apply for. So we do our best keeping parents informed. We are all in this together.”
He explained the page holds a drawing every nine weeks when report cards come out. The drawing is for students who are named to A/B honor roll.
“We pick two lucky winners,” Underwood said. “But lately we have been handing out more than two $25 gift cards because parents and local businesses have been donating $25 gifts cards. At our last drawing we handed out eight $25 gift cards.”
He says all the students have to do post their A/B report card on the page and they pick different students to win.
Underwood added that they plan to start a reading club for students soon.
