Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield will celebrate the 2014 Christmas season with tree-lighting ceremonies, brunch with Santa Claus and the transformation of Holbrook Pond Recreation Area into a dazzling light display and site of a three-night family fun event.
The public is welcome to the holiday events.
The Christmas tree outside Club Stewart will light the evening sky and Santa will arrive at the tree-lighting ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.
Holiday music will be played by members of the 3rd Infantry Division Band. The Liberty County High School Chorus will perform and the Bradwell Institute cheerleaders will join Santa’s elves in getting the audience into the holiday spirit. The audience gets to sing, too.
At Hunter, Santa will arrive and the Christmas tree outside Hunter Club will come to life at the tree-lighting ceremony starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5.
There also will be kiddie train rides, seasonal music performed by 3rd ID Band and songs by a school chorus and the audience.
Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served and Gluhwein will be sold at both events.
Take snapshots and selfies with Old St. Nick at Club Stewart’s Holiday Brunch with Santa at Club Stewart, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7.  Retirees and civilians welcome.
There will be a variety of your holiday favorites and more on the menu, which always includes Southern breakfast items.
Attendees can trim costs by picking up tickets in advance at the club. Advance tickets are $14.95 for adults and $6.95 for children until Friday, Dec. 5. The cost after that is $17.95 and $7.95, respectively. Children ages 2 and younger are admitted free. For more information, call 912-767-4717.
Holbrook Pond Recreation Area will glow with Christmas lights and illuminated decorations that will delight children and adults alike during a special holiday event from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11-13.
The event has all the ingredients for great family fun: roasting marshmallows and making s’mores, time for the children to share their Christmas wishes and have their photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday scenes that light up the campground area trail for the 15- to 20-minute hayrides, the kiddie train, gifts and treats for sale at the new Kringle Market, and much more.
The cost is just $8 per car on Thursday and $10 per car Friday and Saturday.
Motorists also are welcome to ride through the Holbrook area at no charge and see the decorations from 6-9:30 p.m. Dec. 14-26.
Welcome 2015 with friends or that someone special during the New Year’s Eve Party at Club Stewart from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Dec. 31.
The evening features a live rhythm-and-blues band, a midnight champagne toast, light party hats and favors and a balloon drop. The cost is $25 per person.
The party is open to active duty, retirees and civilians.
To help attendees celebrate responsibly, taxi telephone numbers will be posted and the Tow-2-Go program will be available.
