Letter to the editor: ACOM offers thanks for support
letter to editor new

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express ACOM’s heartfelt appreciation to all who attended our recent 10th Year of Service Celebration Banquet on April 4.

The evening was truly a memorable occasion, made special by the presence, warmth, and enthusiasm of our guest speaker Pastor Aakeem and Lady Pamela Woodard and the Radiant Life Church members of Atlanta and our musical guest recording artist Ahmad Hall & Friends.

There was support and participation from local pastors and first ladies, such as Pastor Larry and First Lady Dr. Mary Murray (Fellowship of Love Worship Center), Bishop Kendall and Lady Paige (Immanuel Christian Center), Pastor William and Lady Sparina Williams (Gospel Tabernacle COGIC), Pastor Alvin and Pastor Evelyn Jackson (St. Luke MB Church), Host Pastor Christy and Deacon Kelvin Conyers (Mt. Zion Ministries), Bishop Demetrio Mendez (De Dois es el Poder), Pastor Diane Chaney (Bethel AME Church) and Pastor Douglas and Lady Lucretia Stinson (St. James AME Church and who also represented the Chosen Corvette Club of Liberty County).

The presence of Mayor Sarah Hayes of the City of Walthourville and City of Hinesville Mayor pro tem Council member Diana Reid contributed greatly to the success of our event. It was inspiring to see our community come together to celebrate, share stories, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as we continue to serve our homeless community and families in need. ACOM honored Pastor Annie Mendez-Street (Community Advocate for Veterans), Bethel AME Church (Warming/Cooling Station), Mother L. Glenn (L.C. Manna House Soup Kitchen), Bishop Raymond and Dr. Mary Napper (Community Service), and Council member Reid (Community Servant) for their impactful service to our community. Also honored was ACOM’s volunteer staff for their untiring work to ensure all of ACOM’s outreach events are supported with excellence and compassion. Events like this remind us of the importance of connection, gratitude, partnership and collective achievement.

On behalf of those who wake up without a meal to eat or are sleeping in the woods or those you see pushing their shopping carts up and down Highway 84, we say thank you. Oftentimes they do not have a voice or know where to go for assistance. For the past 10 years, ACOM has been trying to assist these individuals and families with resources and guidance toward the pathway out of homelessness. We are grateful for community partnerships and supporters who engage in this ongoing service with us.

Again, we thank every one of you for taking the time to join us and for helping make the evening such a meaningful and joyful experience. We look forward to many more opportunities to gather and serve our homeless community and families in need. If you are interested in becoming a “Friend of ACOM” through a monthly tax-deductible donation of just $25 a month contact ACOM at (912) 532-1723. Your donation will provide temporary shelter to a homeless mother and child(ren) or meals for homeless students.

Sincerely,

ACOM Board of Directors www.anotherchanceom.org Email: anotherchanceom@gmail.com
