Letter to the editor: Annual Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Walk-a-Thon to be held
letter to editor new

Dear Editor,

Seven Ministries of Liberty County, Inc. is the proud sponsor of the 14th Annual Jackie Gilliard-Henderson Memorial Scholarship Walk-a-Thon. The funds raised will be used to award scholarships to graduating seniors from Liberty County’s public high schools that choose to further their education by attending college or technical school in the summer/fall of 2026.

Additional funds will help support the organization’s other programs (see attachment). The 4.5 mile “Pre-Mother’s Day Walk” is scheduled for May 9, 2026. We will meet at 6:30 a.m. at Rebecca’s Place across from First Calvary Missionary Baptist (at the corner of Rebecca Street and Edelle Osgood Avenue) for registration and commence walking precisely at 7 a.m.

This year our co-grand marshals will be local candidates from Liberty County that seek to be elected or re-elected.

Seven Ministries (a 501c3 nonprofit organization) was incorporated in 2012 and offers a variety of programs that benefit the community. Last year we awarded $4,000 in scholarships, donated nearly $7,000 in gifts to senior citizens, and sponsored a back-to-school rally at Rebecca’s Place in Hinesville where we passed out over $3,800 in school supplies. We also support the local Manna House, homeless organizations, food banks, and other charitable causes.

You can participate by walking and/or making monetary tax-deductible donations. This year we’re asking participants over 21 years old to donate $20, and participants from ages 16-20 to donate $10 (there is no fee for children under 15 years old).

For mailings see the address above (tax exempt: 17053362317011).

Please join us for this worthy cause.

May God bless you all,

Gary Gilliard, President/ CEO, Emeritus Seven Ministries of Liberty County, Inc.
