Dear Editor,

Another Chance Outreach Ministry (ACOM) has been assisting low-income families and the families of those who have members incarcerated through their Season of HOPE program since 2016.

Season of HOPE began as a way to bless families who have a loved one incarcerated within the state of Georgia; by sending those Christmas gifts the individual behind the walls.

As each year passes the demand for assistance has increased.

In 2017, Season of HOPE assisted 42 local low income families and 35 gifts were mailed out to families of incarcerated men and women.

During the 2018 / 2019 school year Season of HOPE and partners like God’s Anointed Now Generation, Inc. extended ACOM’s service and assisted more than 50 students with book bags and essential school supplies.

Through the generosity of local donors, more than 200 needy families received holiday gifts during Season of HOPE Christmas Celebration in 2018 and 2019.

ACOM began collecting basic needs items and personal care packages for the men incarcerated at the Ware and Dooley State Prisons and distributed Christmas gifts to the men residing at the Safe Haven Life Center (Reentry Partnership Housing). As plans were being prepared to enter into ACOM’s fifth year of Season of HOPE 2020, there were some major concerns involving the acquisition of gifts and who would be the targeted audience this year.

It was later decided that we would concentrate our efforts and resources within our own community of Liberty County. We sought out financial commitments from local businesses, ACOM supporters and newly found partners to ensure the Season of HOPE 2020 was able to meet the needs of every registered family.

Due to COVID-19, a drive-thru event was decided upon. Fellowship of Love Worship Center (Pastor Larry and First Lady, Dr. Mary Murray) once again welcomed and embraced the idea of hosting Season of HOPE for the fifth year in a row. Pastor Katrina Deason of the Liberty County Manna House graciously provided the Christmas Food Baskets, which was a first for the Season of HOPE. These food baskets provided another avenue of relief for these 75 struggling families, of which some didn’t register for the gifts, but needed the food.

ACOM would like to thank and appreciate the many supporters and businesses that assisted in sponsoring the Season of HOPE 2020: Mr. Gerald & Mrs. Bonita Smith, Mr. Phillip & Mrs. Veronica Murrell, Ms. Lashunda Richardson, Minister Eric Harris, Mr. Gerald Lee, Hinesville Take-Out Express, Best Care Nursing, Divine LaCour Beauty, LLC., The Felton Group, LLC., Church’s Chicken (Team Hinesville), Liberty County Manna House, The Recovery Place, BBQ Heaven, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Gospel 94.9 FM, Maggie Buckner and Never Counted Out, Inc., Walthourville Fire Department, Walthourville Councilwoman Sarah B. Hayes, Mr. Robert and Mrs. Janelle John and the ACOM Board of Directors.   As the Christmas Season continued ACOM unveiled their latest holiday endeavor, ACOM Cares.

During the fall months leading up into Christmas, we have been collecting basic needs items and provisions to be distributed to the men residing at the Safe Haven Reentry Center, here in Hinesville and those homeless men who are residing on the streets of Hinesville.

On Christmas Eve, the men of ACOM spent quality time with them sharing our personal testimonies and encouraging these men to embrace their opportunity for another chance. ACOM would like to thank Mrs. Lavonia LeCounte and GANG, Inc. and Pastor Thomas A. Brown and Grace and Mercy Temple for unyielding support of ACOM Cares.

Yes, 2020 has been a very challenging year for all of us, but it has not tarnished our resolve to help and assist those in need, especially the homeless and those seeking another chance in life. Helping others is our Mission. For volunteer opportunities and support, ACOM can be reach at (912) 460-0278 or email: Anotherchanceom@gmail.com. To God be the Glory.
