Editor, The 12th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament held last month at the Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart was very successful, and I encourage all golfers to take advantage of this great golf course and the staff’s extraordinary customer service. The professionalism displayed by the staff, particularly Mr. John Fesperman and Mr. Chuck Graham, was exceptional. They treated us with the utmost respect, and I want to personally thank them for an exceptional customer-service experience — second to none.
Our tournaments have been highly successful over the years, and we attribute this success to three key factors. First, we have a dedicated golf committee that serves on a volunteer basis; second, our corporate sponsors; and thirdly, players who make for an exciting day of fellowship and golf. This year’s golf tournament was well attended and enabled us to award six academic scholarships. I am extremely grateful and want to thank all of our sponsors, players and volunteers because without their support, none of this would be possible.
We were elated to have 15 teams supporting the tournament. Before the first tee-off, the Rev. Alvin Jackson, the president of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Association, was on hand to welcome and thank everyone for supporting this event. After enjoying the fellowship and lunch, the tournament was on. Congratulations to the winners: first place, Steve Bryant, Derrick Arthur, Willie Graham and Sean Begg; second place, Jerry Kimble, Vincent Davis, Tony Calhoun and Alvin Thompson; third place, Corey Emmil, Kevin Holt and Padrig Cullen; longest drive, Marguerite West; and closest to the pin, Verner Jenning.
I extend special thanks to: Gold Corporate Sponsors — Jones Osteen and Jones and KC Brothers Construction; Corporate Sponsors – Arnold and Stafford, CH2M Hill-OMI, The Heritage Bank, Kenny Fussell, Hinesville Ford, Brown’s Tax and Accounting, Kyoto Japanese Restaurant and Strategic Business Solutions; and Hole Sponsors — Arrowood Engineering, P.C. Simonton & Associates, BoBo’s Seafood II, Quality Cleaners, Realty Executives, State Farm – Joseph Grant, St. Luke Baptist Church, AJ Publishing, The Claxton Bank and Buckley and Associates. Door prizes were donated by the Taylors Creek Country Club and Fort Stewart’s MWR. I want to sincerely thank our volunteers — Jackson, Joe Ford, Daisy Jones, Delisa Espada, Laucenia Frasier and Velma Wilson.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 2015 Liberty County Dr. M.L. King Observance Association events. We are always seeking corporate sponsors and welcome inquiries regarding our events and sponsorship opportunities. Call 912-876-3164 or email libertycountymlkoa@gmail.com.
