Enthusiastic middle school students joined in the Great American Cleanup on Thursday last week. Midway Middle School Green Team members and science class students volunteered to cleanup their campus after school.
These energetic students collected 20 bags of trash as they worked around their campus. They have joined more than 65 groups, families and businesses that have volunteered to cleanup around our community since February. Several citywide cleanups are coming up so there is still time to get involved.
Saturday, our next citywide cleanups will be in Riceboro, Walthourville and Allenhurst. Residents in each of these cities can join us to spruce up streets and green spaces. These cities already have over 100 registered volunteers. Some have individual cleanups planned. And there are plenty of areas that can still use volunteers.
Each site will have check in at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are asked to register ahead with Keep Liberty Beautiful so we have plenty of supplies and food. Riceboro volunteers will meet at Riceboro Creek on Highway 17. The city and SNF will provide a picnic for volunteers after the cleanup. Walthourville and Allenhurst volunteers are each meeting at their city halls and will have a joint lunch after the cleanups.
KLB provides all the supplies (garbage bags, safety vests, work gloves, litter reachers and water). So all we need is you! We also provide great American Cleanup T-shirts for all registered volunteers. If you or your group cannot participate on the dates scheduled, we can help you schedule a cleanup in your area on a day that works for you.
Join us as a community to make a difference. The heroes in our communities are not those on the sidelines complaining about the way things. The heroes are those who reach out to help. There are so many organizations and church programs and schools that can use volunteers to make a difference.
