The Atlanta Braves will pay tribute to the life, values and accomplishments of Jackie Robinson on Saturday, when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at 3:55 p.m.
Tuesday was the 61st anniversary of Robinson’s historic debut in Major League Baseball, as he broke the color barrier and paved the way for future generations.
Before the Braves and Dodgers take the field, Robinson’s daughter, Sharon Robinson will recognize Jackie Robinson Foundation scholars and winners of a “Breaking Barriers” essay contest during an on field presentation.
Also pre-game, a Robinson tribute video will play on BravesVision in center field, and the Braves Heavy Hitters Drumline will put on a Jackie Robinson Day performance from the top of the dugouts.
Pre-game festivities in Fan Plaza will feature performances by the Southside High School drumline and the Parkside Elementary School dance team, “The Pandarettes.”
The Braves will also host six students from Morehouse University’s College of Journalism and give them the opportunity to interview Sharon Robinson and Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton. Each student will write about their experiences and one article will be selected and published on Braves.com.
