Blue Tide and FPCA Highlander players among state hoops leaders

According to the statistics posted online at maxpreps.com, players from the Long County Blue Tide and the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlander basketball teams are among the top 100 in the state in rebounds, scoring and three-point shots.

Scoring leaders
A review of the top 100 basketball players in Georgia shows Joey Bell was ranked number seven among the scoring leaders. Bell has played 27 games, scoring 41 field goals, averaging 21.8 points per game with at total of 588 points last season.
Highlander teammate Michael Brown was ranked 36. In his 27 games last season he scored 36 field goals averaged 14.8 points per game and scored a total of 399 points.
Blue Tide players Jimmy Bacon, Justin Boyd and Robert Gamble also made the top 100 scorers. All three played 31 games last season. Bacon was ranked 21, averaging 16.9 points per game and scoring a total of 524 points. Boyd came in 45th with a total of 405 points scored and he averaged 13.1 points per game. Gamble hit the midway marker ranked at 50. His 11 field goals yielded 398 points and he averaged 12.8 points per game.

Rebounds
Bacon, Bell, Boyd and Gamble also were among the top 100 rebounders in the state. In this category, Bell was joined by fellow Highlanders Hakeem Golden and Josh Rodgers.
Golden ranked number 10. In 26 games he had 87 defensive rebounds and 85 offensive rebounds, averaging 9.5 rebounds per game. Bacon had a total of 278 rebounds in his 31 games, averaging 9 per game and ranking him 14th. Rodgers came in at 70. He played in 26 games, getting 57 defensive rebounds and 44 offensive rebounds and averaging 5.3 per game.
Boyd was ranked 74th with a total of 158 rebounds. Bell was ranked 77th with 58 defensive rebounds and 43 offensive rebounds. Gamble was just behind Bell at 78th with 154 total rebounds in 31 games.
According to maxpreps.com there was only one lone local hoop player within the top 100 in the state for three-point shots. Ranked at 65, Brown of FPCA made 23 three-pointers in 27 games.
