Jacksonville Jaguar's third year offensive tackle Richard Collier remains in intensive care at Shands Jacksonville Hospital but, according to his agent, Jeff Jankovich, he is making gradual improvements.
Collier was recently in Hinesville as the veteran NFL player joined his friend Cedric Dickerson in their annual football camp for the kids at the Liberty County Recreation Department.
Collier was reportedly shot, while sitting in his cars with his former teammate Kenneth Pettway. The two were reportedly waiting for two female acquaintances they met earlier in the evening at a nightclub.
According to a news report in the Florida Times-Union, police still have no suspects in the case, and Collier's family has authorized the release of little information about his condition.
Dickerson played football at Liberty County High School before playing at Valdosta State University. As a VSU alumnus Dickerson met Collier and the two became good friends. Since then Collier has taken time out of his NFL schedule to help Dickerson run the annual LCRD camp.
"This incident has really saddened me because Rich was a very good friend of mine and one of the nicest individuals you could ever meet," Dickerson replied in an e-mailed statement. "He would always ask me when is the camp? He loved coming down to interact with the kids. I really hope that all the kids and parents understand how special it is to have someone like Rich come spend time with the kids here in Hinesville. How often does an NFL player come to Hinesville to interact with the kids a week before he starts training camp? It just doesn't happen! I ask that everyone please continue to pray for Rich, his family and friends."
