District IX off to the AAU Junior Olympics in North Carolina

Nine members of Hinesville’s “District IX” Track And Field Club qualified for the 2019 AAU Junior Olympics that is taking place at North Carolina A&T University, North Carolina from July 29 through Aug. 3.  

District IX Track Club performed well at the AAU Regional District Qualification meet 27-30 Jun2019 in Taylor, South Carolina. That meet helped advance the team to also compete in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Games on 4-13 July 2019 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Nine (11) District IX athletes qualified for the 2019 AAU Junior Olympics.

Leia Williams, F15-16, earned a Gold medal in the discus with a throw of 120 feet-1 inch and Silver medal in the shot put throw with a distance of 36 feet-1½ inches.

Travon Phillips, B17-18, earned Gold medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.79 seconds and Gold medal in the 200-meter with a time of 21.33 seconds.

Ta’tyana Anderson, F12, earned Silver medal in the long jump, leaping 14 feet -8½ inches, Silver medal in the high jump leaping 4 feet -8 inches and qualified 4th place for the Pentathlon.

Zachary Kinsey, B10, earned Bronze medal in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 24.34 seconds.

Ciara Hamlin, F10, earned Bronze medal in the high jump, leaping 3 feet-10¼ inches. 

Travon Philips, Chris Pettigrew, Julian Sutphin and Shamar Rose earned Bronze medal in the 4X100 Meter Relay time of 42.77 seconds.

 Other qualifying members Edmond Richardson, B10 in long jump, Kealohoilani Trueblood, F10 in long jump and Destinee Gordon F10 in high jump.

The District IX also said farewell and good luck to Travon Philips, who will be attending the University of Kentucky and Shamar Rose will be attending the Kent State on a track and field scholarship.
