STATESBORO — Former Georgia Southern Football All-American Jayson Foster signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens. He took the field for the first time on Tuesday the first day of the Ravens’ preseason training camp. Baltimore has Foster listed as a wide receiver.

The 2007 Walter Payton Award winner, Foster originally signed last year as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins but was cut prior to the start of the regular season. He also spent time on the practice squads of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.

During his record-setting senior year under center, Foster earned All-America honors as a quarterback, all-purpose back and running back from various media outlets. Foster finished second nationally in ’07 averaging 167.6 rushing yards per game. His 1,844 rushing yards set a NCAA Division I record for most rushing yards by a quarterback. That yardage was the second-highest total in a Georgia Southern season, and third-most in SoCon history. Foster accounted for 3,047 yards of total offense, setting a Georgia Southern single-season record. He recorded a team-leading 24 touchdowns on the ground.

Baltimore opens its exhibition season on Thursday, August 13th at home against the Washington Redskins.
