Georgia Southern senior quarterback Jayson Foster (Canton/Cherokee County) was named September ‘Offensive Player of the Month’ by the Southern Conference. It marks the second time in his career he received the SoCon’s monthly honor (November 2005).
Foster continues to lead the nation averaging 197.5 rushing yards per game. He also ranks third nationally in scoring (19.5 ppg), fifth in total offense (309.8), fourth in all-purpose yards (211.0) and tied for 56th in punt returns (6.7 yards).
In the first four games of the year Foster has tied or broken eight Georgia Southern and Southern Conference records - including passing, rushing and touchdowns marks. During September he was twice named SoCon ‘Player of the Week’ and earned National ‘Player of the Week’ honors once. His best game of the month was when he rushed for a career-high 253 yards and a record six touchdowns in the win at Coastal Carolina.
Foster currently ranks first among the career active NCAA leaders averaging 7.13 yards per carry. He also ranks fourth in career rushing TDs and ninth in rushing yards.
The Eagles (3-1 overall) concluded a three-game homestand Saturday, facing South Dakota State on Family Weekend. Kickoff at Paulson Stadium.
