FPCA's Betton takes third at GIAA state track meet

First Preparatory Christian Academy’s Brandon Betton placed third in the GIAA state track’s 400-meter dash recently.

Betton turned in a time of 51.69 seconds in the state meet, held at Strong Rock Christian Academy in Locust Grove.

James Strange of Heritage Prep won the 400 at 51.01 seconds.

FPCA eighth grader Deborah Kane was sixth in the Class AA 800-meter run at 2:40.16. She also took eighth in the 1,600-meter run at 6:00.89. Southland Academy’s Isabel Kelley won both events.

Betton won the 400 at the GIAA Region 6-AA meet held at Brewton-Parker, turning in a time of 51.92 seconds. Betton also took first in the high jump at the region meet with a best of 5 feet, 8 inches, and Jackson McCullough won the 800 meters at 2:11.33. The 4x400 meter relay team turned in the best time at 3:47.86.

McCullough also was second in the high jump and third in the 400. Malachi Furlow took second in the 100 at 11.53 and was fifth in the 200 at 24.45. Robert McCloud was third in the 200 at 23.96 and took fifth in the 100 at 11.86 seconds. McCloud also was fifth in the long jump at 18-1.75.

Michael Christensen was sixth in the 800 and 1,600 meters.

Kane won the girls region title in the 800 at 2:37.08 and was third in the 1,600 at 6:12.97. Kyndall Winter was sixth in the long jump at 13-10.
