Garrett named region's offensive player of the year
Tigers put eight players on all-Region 1-AAAAA first team

Bradwell Institute record-setting quarterback Christopher Garrett was named Region 1-AAAAA's offensive player of the year.

Christopher Garrett led Bradwell Institute’s all-Region 1-AAAAA selections with his designation as region offensive player of the year.

Also making the all-region list were wide receivers Bryant Thomas, Zay Thomas and Tyon Jones. Zay Thomas was chosen as the athlete on the all-region team.

Garrett threw for 2,426 yards and 24 touchdowns, completing 144 of 240 passes. Jones led the Tigers with 1,000 yards receiving, catching 45 passes and scoring seven touchdowns. Bryant Thomas had a team-high eight touchdowns on 45 receptions for 695 yards, and Zay Thomas had 33 catches for 416 yards and four scores.

Offensive linemen Elyjah Thurmon and A.J. Walthour were named to the all-region team, as were juniors linebacker Davion Banks and defensive back Davyion Tillman. Banks led the team with 99 tackles and Tillman had 66 stops.

Junior running back Wade Cobb was named honorable mention, as were offensive linemen Noah Quarles and junior Joseph Morris. Cobb ran for 536 yards and four TDs.

Junior punter Ivan Tovar also was named honorable mention.

Coffee’s Mike Coe was named region coach of the year, and Coe led the Trojans to the Class AAAAA state championship, the first in school history.

Jenkins’ Lorenzo Cowan was named region defensive player of the year and Coffee running back Fred Brown was named the region’s player of the year after rushing for a school-record 2,471 yards.
