Hinesville native named to Scholar-Athlete Team

Simon Steele Jr., a member of the Brewton- Parker College men’s track and field team, has been named to the 2021– 22 Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Team, presented by Barnes & Noble College.

Steele is listed along with seven other student- athletes from across the conference who earned the honor.

The junior from Hinesville earned the honor with a 3.68 grade point average at the time of submission and was also a member of the All-Academic Team earlier this season.

To be eligible, student- athletes must be a sophomore or above in both academic and athletic standing, must be starters or important reserves, must have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA, and must have competed in 50 percent of competitions. Graduate students are not eligible, and transfers must have completed one semester at the school.

During the outdoor track & field season, Steele was a member of the Barons 4x800m relay team that earned Third Team All-SSAC honors.
