Lady Panthers go 2-3 at tourney

Liberty County High School’s softball team went 2-3 at the Tattnall County Warriors Blast Tournament last weekend in Glennville.

Liberty lost a close game against Treutlen 6-5 in its first tourney contest Friday. Lady Panther Kathryn Carter drove in three runs in the loss. Pitcher Kaleigh Fisher had seven strikeouts.

In the Lady Panthers’ second game Friday, Bryan County won 10-1, with Carter taking the loss.

On Saturday morning, Liberty lost 8-1 to a strong Vidalia team. The Lady Indians scored two runs in the first, three in the second and three in the third to claim the win in the shortened game. Fisher took the loss.

The Lady Panthers bounced back to beat Appling County 9-5 in a 10-inning game. Carter was selected as the player of the game, going 3 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs. She also pitched all 10 innings, recording eight strikeouts.

Liberty then beat Metter 9-4 Saturday afternoon. Fisher was selected as the player of that game, batting 2 for 2 with one RBI and got the win on the mound.

The Lady Panthers were 3-4 overall as they prepped for action Tuesday at South Effingham. Liberty plays at 6 p.m. Monday at Long County.
