The FPCA varsity boys kept up their winning streak Saturday.

Coming off a homecoming win on Friday, the Highlanders crushed Royal Live Oak Academy 100-46. The Highlanders have been meeting little resistance in the region and have been racking up wins and frustrating opponents, who seem unable to stop their run. FPCA is undefeated in the region.

After an action packed week (four games and homecoming), the Highlanders appeared sluggish early Saturday. Putting up the first two baskets, Royal Live Oak looked energetic and ready to challenge the ’Landers.

After a correction by coach Shane Smith, FPCA took control and within five minutes posted 27 points. George Mitchell was vocal, calling plays and putting the players in motion. Scoring 15 points in the first quarter, Mitchell started an offensive blast that lasted through the game.

Khalyn Weekley netted 33 points in the game. Working in tandem with Mitchell, Weekley rarely missed, nailing most of his shots. Mitchell would score 25 points. Also scoring were Simon Steele (11), Marcus Williams (8), Sensier Carnes (8), Brandon Attical (6) and John Killough (2).

The Highlanders were to face region opponent Twiggs Academy in Jeffersonville on Tuesday. Friday, the Highlanders will face Memorial Day School at home starting at 5 p.m.

Earlier in the season the Highlander girls beat Memorial by a wide margin. But Memorial’s boys played the Highlanders much closer. FPCA won by 10 points 61-51.
