The Liberty County High School Marching Band will be participating in the upcoming 43rd East Georgia Marching Band Championships being held at Statesboro High School on Saturday. Oct. 26.
The event brings more than 2,000 band students, parents, and supporters from more than a dozen counties across South Georgia to Statesboro for a full day of music, marching and fun.
Since 1973, Statesboro High School has been host to one of the largest marching band competitions in the state.
Performances will begin at noon on Saturday at Womack Field with the Marching Blue Devils performing their welcome and opening performance.
Throughout the day, 17 bands will compete for top honors in the captions of Music Performance, Music Effect, Visual Performance, Visual Effect, Percussion, Drum Major, and Auxiliaries. Band classfications from A to AAAAA are determined by wind players and rated Fair, Average, Excellent, or Superior according to a point scoring system.
This year’s exhibition band, scheduled to perform at 8:30 p.m., will be the Southern Pride Marching Band of Georgia Southern University whose halftime show is entitled “Women of Pop.”
The Marching Blue Devils will also exhibit “The Music of Michael Jackson” at 8 p.m.
The awards portion of the event is scheduled to take place at 9:00pm. This event is open to the public and the price of admission is $7. Full concessions will be available throughout the day, with many vendors on-site.
All proceeds from the event benefit the music and band programs at Statesboro High School.
