Liberty County Recreation Department Director Jimmy Martin received the James Colley Award, the highest award an individual in one of the districts of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association can receive, on Aug. 15.
The award recognizes the professional who has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to leisure services and was presented at a district awards banquet in Waycross.
Martin has worked in the sports/recreational management arena for more than 30 years. He has initiated annual recreational planning sessions with the LCRD staff and LCRD Recreation Commission, and expanded the commercial sponsorship program to an all-time high in the recreation department’s history.
Kenneth Howard, chairman of the LCRD Commission, said Martin has been “instrumental in program expansion.”
Howard also said Martin has been insistent that “recreation be readily accessible to the entire community.”
Steve Card, director of the Wayne County Recreation Department, presented the award to Martin and said he feels there is no one more deserving of the award.
“His professionalism and his work ethic are second to none amongst directors. He does a good job, and he’s a great guy,” Card said.
