Five-Star recruit and University of Georgia football commit Richard LeCounte gave his Liberty County High School football teammates a bit of a scare Thursday, but proved to be OK.

The Panther football team was at Brunswick High for a scrimmage when LeCounte took a hit to the head and went down.

According to Panther offensive coordinator Ryan Glazer, LeCounte was running downfield to make a block when the opposing player ducked down, causing LeCounte to trip and fall forward right into the leg and knee of another opposing player, whose knee struck LeCounte’s head.

Glazer said that just as officials would do with any athlete, all precautionary measures were taken to ensure LeCounte’s safety. He was transported to Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick by ambulance to be checked out.

“He went to the hospital and was released with no concussions or injuries,” Glazer reported. “He was back on the sideline by the second half.”

The Panthers open their football season Aug. 26 at Hokey Jackson Stadium against local rival Bradwell Institute. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
