The Liberty County softball team dropped a 5-0 decision to South Effingham on Tuesday in a Region 3-AAAA game in Effingham.
According to Lady Panther coach Jerome Standard, Liberty County gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Afterward, the Lady Panthers’ stingy defense kept the Lady Mustangs from scoring.
Standard said that in the bottom of the sixth inning, Liberty committed three errors, allowing two balls to drop in the outfield for hits. South Effingham converted those into three runs.
Liberty County’s Rachel Smith had two hits, which were the only hits the Lady Panthers mustered. Standard said Lady Panther pitcher Kaleigh Fisher did well, tossing six strikeouts and walking only two batters.
Going into Thursday’s action, Liberty was 11-9 overall and 2-1 in the region.
The Lady Panthers were scheduled to host Portal on Thursday.
They will play a region make-up game at
5 p.m. today at Thomson.
